Barcelona, SpainAkselos, a global leader in advanced engineering simulation technology, is proud to announce its collaboration with the engineering and technology group Sener on the DECIMAP project. This partnership aims to redefine the design and optimization of the HiveWind floating offshore wind platform, bringing a new wave of innovation to the renewable energy sector.

Through this collaboration, Akselos will provide its cutting-edge simulation technology to conduct detailed fatigue and strength analyses for the HiveWind floating platform. The project leverages Akselos’ Reduced Basis Finite Element Analysis (RB-FEA) technology, which offers unparalleled speed and accuracy, enabling more efficient and optimized designs. This innovative approach supports Sener’s commitment to delivering robust and sustainable solutions for the floating wind industry.

The main goal of DECIMAP, a project led by Sener, is to develop a new floating foundation for high-power marine wind turbines that introduces competitive advantages over the solutions currently available. The project uses an innovative concept that was previously patented: HiveWind, a semi-submersible floating steel platform, developed by Sener in collaboration with WindWaves for offshore wind turbines.

The combined expertise of Akselos and Sener unlocks the potential for achieving more de-risked and cost-effective floating wind designs. By addressing critical challenges in structural modeling and fatigue assessment, this partnership paves the way for enhanced operational efficiency and a significant reduction in lifecycle costs.

“We are thrilled to partner with Sener on the HiveWind development, which represents a key step forward in advancing floating offshore wind technology,” said Guillaume Lechaton, Wind and New Energies Director at Akselos. “By combining Akselos’ state-of-the-art simulation capabilities with Sener’s engineering excellence, we aim to set a new standard for de-risked and optimized designs in the renewable energy sector”, said Romain Pinguet, Offshore Wind Technical Lead at Akselos.

Sergi Ametller, Director of Offshore Wind at Sener, stated: “This collaboration with Akselos is a significant milestone for the DECIMAP project. By integrating Akselos’ advanced simulation technology, we can enhance the design and optimization of the HiveWind platform, ensuring robust and sustainable solutions for the floating wind industry.”

Albert Monclús, DECIMAP Project Manager at Sener, commented: “The partnership with Akselos allows us to address critical challenges in structural modeling and fatigue assessment. This collaboration is crucial for achieving more efficient and cost-effective floating wind designs.”

This collaboration underscores Akselos’ and Sener’s shared vision of driving innovation and sustainability in the offshore wind sector. The HiveWind development stands as a testament to the transformative potential of technology and partnership in accelerating the global transition to renewable energy.
