In 2019, the Irish electricity company ESB selected was trying to understand better the structural health of the country’s sole pumped storage system – Turlough Hill. The company wished to determine whether the 47-year-old station could continue to operate safely.
Akselos built a detailed model of the whole asset using its innovative physics simulation software. With the digital twin now deployed, the next stage is to connect the model to data via sensors to create a structural digital twin that will give a constant, real-time picture of Turlough Hill’s structural condition and allow for the undertaking of predictive maintenance.
