The oil and gas industry owns a complex network of large-scale assets and intricate pipeline infrastructure. The integrity of these assets is critical to the success of their owners, but also to the societies they help power.

As each year passes, an increasing number of offshore platforms move towards, reach or pass their intended design life, leaving operators with significant challenges to address.

Akselos can help. By creating detailed and accurate structural simulations of the asset, an operator can understand its structural integrity and make informed decisions about Asset Life Extension. In many cases, this means continuing to operate the asset for at least another decade, unlocking years of production.

Beyond safely extending the life of assets, operators benefit from reduced operating expenditure thanks to a move towards predictive maintenance, and ultimately zero unplanned downtime.

Our technology is the only one of its kind on the market. It’s the only simulation software powerful enough to model large structures accurately and in detail, and it’s the only one to have performed a fully detailed analysis of a large-scale oil and gas production asset in under three minutes.

The high-fidelity modelling provided by Akselos can be used to represent defects in full 3D detail. As a result, Akselos can provide a condition-based model which can be used to assess structures in their current state, as opposed to an idealised pristine state. We tested Akselos's modeling with defects resulting in significant effect on stresses and forces in structures, which shows that it is vital to model defects in detail in order to perform an accurate structural integrity assessment.
